A.M.P.S.
The Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS) is a civil penalty system designed by the CBSA to enforce compliance with customs legislation through the application of monetary penalties.
The objective of AMPS is to encourage importers, exporters and related service providers to comply with Canada's laws governing the import and export of goods. Penalties are levied on a graduated basis depending on the severity and frequency of non-compliance. Compliance includes non-revenue issues or those dealing with statistical or technical detail that might not affect duty and/or tax collection.
Omnitrans' teams of consultants and regulatory experts assist our clients in ensuring minimal exposure to the AMPS penalty regime by:
- Providing training concerning the AMPS program and how to implement compliance measures to minimize exposure
- Conducting simulated customs audits
- Assisting importers in receipt of an AMPS penalty in the appeals process
