Ensuring That You Are Prepared for CBSA Periodic Verification Audits
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is currently applying an audit-based approach and penalty regime to enforce Customs compliance for goods imported into Canada. The audit consists of reviewing a company’s overall compliance with Customs and other Government departments’ legislation, and is normally initiated by a written notice.
Mainly three types of audits are conducted:
- Single Program Verification Audits (desk audits)
- Multi-Program Verification Audits
- NAFTA Audits
CBSA Single-Program and Multi-Program verification audits have increased and have been felt by large and small businesses. Penalty amounts for non-compliance, interest charges, and additional duties and taxes can spell disaster if you are not prepared.
