Changes to Commodity Codes for Agricultural Product
Canada is making changes to tariff item numbers in the List of Tariff Provisions in Canada’s Customs Tariff Schedule (SOR/2011-191). These changes will come into force on January 1, 2012.
The commodity codes of the following agricultural goods will be affected: broiler hatching eggs; chicken and turkey fat; cream of more than 6% fat; shell eggs; and wheat and barley. A summary of the changes can be found in the Notice to Importers No. 811.
The on-line Handbook of Export and Import Commodity Codes (“Bluebook”), the Export-Import Control System (EICS), and the Notices to Importers (including Appendices) have been updated on the Trade Controls & Technical Barriers Bureau website.
To find the new codes for permit requests, consult the relevant Notices to importers or their Appendices:
- Broiler hatching eggs: Paragraphs 15.2 and 16.3 of Notice No. 794 & Paragraph 14.4 of Notice No. 795
- Chicken fat: Appendix 10 to Notice No.792 & Appendix 4 to Notice No. 793
- Turkey fat: Appendix 7 to Notice No.800 & Appendix 4 to Notice No. 801
- Cream of more than 6% fat: Appendix 4 to Notice No. 803
- Shell eggs: Appendix 3 to Notice No.799 & Appendix 3 to Notice No. 802
You are advised to use the new codes for any permit requests for shipments scheduled to enter Canada on or after January 1, 2012.
