AGRICULTURAL MARKETING SERVICE PROPOSES TO INCREASE COTTON FEE
The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) issued a proposed rule to increase the tax on imported cotton and the cotton of imported products (unless excluded) under the Cotton Research and Promotion Program. The AMS proposes to increase the assessment from $.008267/kg to $.009874/kg. Importers with line items with a value on entry documentation that results in an assessment of under $2.00 or less will be exempted. Imported organic cotton that has been certified by the National Organic Program, or U.S. produced cotton, other than upland cotton, is also exempt from this assessment.
