CANADA-JORDAN FTA UPDATE – LEGISLATION TO IMPLEMENT THE AGREEMENT HAS BEEN TABLED

The government of Canada has introduced legislation to implement a free trade agreement with Jordan. Negotiations began in April of 2008 and FTA negotiations as well as negotiations for an Agreement on the Environment and a Labour Cooperation Agreement were concluded August 25, 2008.

The bill will be tabled in the House of Commons for 21 sitting days, and the Canada-Jordan FTA should come into force sometime in 2010.

Two-way merchandise trade between Canada and Jordan totalled $92 million in 2008.
