CBSA CUSTOMS OFFICE CLOSINGS & REDUCED HOURS OF OPERATION

 

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA has announced plans to close customs offices that have insufficient volumes to justify the cost of operation.  The closures and reduced hours of operation are scheduled to take place April 1, 2011.

 

The three Ports of Entry (POEs) identified for closure are:


·         The September launch of eManifest in the highway mode has been delayed until October 31, 2010.

·         eManifest will require the pre-arrival transmission of electronic information from highway carriers, freight forwarders and importers at least 1 hour prior to arrival (2 hours for rail freight).

 

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has issued the following notice


·         The CBSA has published a list of 10 national priorities for compliance verification.

·         Problems discovered in compliance verifications include lack of internal controls, product description, origin and valuation issues.

·         Omnitrans consultants prepare importers for compliance audits.
