This notice pertains to Chemical Import Export Declarations under section 1018 of the Controlled Substances Import and Export Act.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is extending the period for public comment on the proposed extension or elimination of form 486, Import/Export Declaration for List I and List II Chemicals to December 1, 2008.

DEA Form 486 is used to obtain information regarding the import/export of certain chemicals to prevent the illicit manufacture of controlled substances, and to verify the registration of customers. Only those persons registered with and authorized by the DEA to import or export listed chemicals may utilize/submit declarations. Failure to complete this form will preclude the import/export of the chemicals mentioned.

DEA form 486 is also used for Notice of Transfers Following Importation or Exportation under the Implementation of the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act of 2005.
