The International Trade Commission (ITC) will begin to collect data on Chinese textile and apparel imports, and report this data back to the House and Ways Committee on a regular basis. This monitoring program resulted from concerns expressed over possible market disruption from increased imports after China’s quotas end on December 31, 2008. The Committee asked the ITC to provide these reports until the Committee terminates or amends the request.

The ITC will also publish a compilation of monthly census data on an annual basis. Reports will contain statistical data including the volume and unit values of textile and apparel imports from China.

Quotas imposed on certain China-origin textile and apparel goods, pursuant to the U.S.-China Textile Agreement, are scheduled to end on December 31, 2008. Any over-shipments that are exported in 2008 will be subject to staged entry in 2009. Information on this and other recent developments can be obtained from our technical consulting group.
