REQUEST FOR TARIFF RELIEF ON WARP PILE FABRIC

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) has commenced an investigation as a result of request number TR-2008-003 for the removal of customs duty on the following warp pile fabric:

  • Knitted warp pile fabric, cut, solely of polyester, including the ground fabric, brushed, for use in the manufacture of coffin interiors

This fabric is currently dutiable at 14% under the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) tariff treatment, under tariff item 6001.92.90.

The CITT’s investigation will be conducted by way of written submissions. To participate, interested parties must file a notice of appearance on or before March 24, 2009.

The CITT plans to issue its recommendations to the Minister of Finance on June 17, 2009. The CITT’s secure E-filing service allows interested parties to file documents electronically. The secure transmission will provide confidentiality and must mirror hard copies.
