(2026-02-09) UPDATE ON WORK STOPPAGE AT CHITTAGONG PORT

Dear Client,

Following our previous advisory, we wish to inform you that leaders of the Chattogram Bandar Rokkha Sangram Parishad have decided to postpone their planned indefinite strike until February 15, 2026.

The decision was announced late Sunday night by Parishad Coordinator Md Ibrahim Khokan, who confirmed that both the shipping adviser and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) chairman had indicated in separate programs in Dhaka that the deal over the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) lease would not be signed during the tenure of the interim government.

Despite the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) taking punitive action against 16 employee leaders earlier on Sunday, the Parishad decided to defer the strike that was originally scheduled to begin at 8:00 am on Monday, February 9. The decision was made considering the upcoming national election and the need to release imported cargo ahead of Ramadan.

All port operations including container handling, vessel movements, and cargo operations have resumed as of Monday morning, February 9, 2026. Normal port activities are continuing.

While operations have resumed, the strike has been postponed, not cancelled. The situation remains subject to change, and further action may be taken on or after February 15, 2026, depending on developments regarding the DP World agreement and punitive measures against employees.

We will continue to closely monitor this evolving situation and will provide timely updates. We recommend maintaining contingency plans for shipments scheduled around mid-February and staying in close communication with your Omnitrans representative regarding any potential impacts to your cargo.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Kind regards,

OMNITRANS INC
