The Government of Canada announced the ratification of the Protocol on the Accession of the United Kingdom (U.K.) to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The U.K.'s accession will complement the existing Canada-UK Trade Continuity Agreement (TCA), providing Canadian businesses with more opportunities in goods, services and investment, as well as government procurement.
The Federal Government notes that Canada's ratification of the accession protocol builds on Canada's long-standing economic and people-to-people ties with the U.K. It highlights Canada and the U.K.'s shared values on open and rules-based trade and strengthens Canada's commitment to diversifying its trade with reliable partners around the world.
The protocol will bring the CPTPP into force between Canada and the U.K. on September 1, 2026, completing the U.K.'s accession process.
