Canada and China both ask WTO to set panels to rule on each other's tariffs.

Canada and China both requested World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute consultations with each other concerning the imposition of additional duties on each other's goods.

Canada is contesting Chinese measures that impose additional import duties on certain agricultural and fishery products from Canada.

China is contesting the imposition by Canada of a 100 percent tariff on Chinese-made electric vehicles and a 25 percent tariff on Chinese steel and aluminum.

The dispute consultations in both cases did not result in satisfactory conclusions for either party.

On May 23 both countries requested that their case be heard towards the appointment of dispute resolution panels.

Canada's request was temporarily withdrawn at the last minute but China's request was heard and will be decided upon at a later date.
