The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced that it is initiated investigations to determine whether steel strapping originating in or exported from China, South Korea, Türkiye and Vietnam is being sold at unfair prices in Canada and whether same good from China are being subsidized.
The CBSA is investigating following a complaint filed by a Canadian manufacturer. Foreign dumping and subsidizing can harm Canadian industries by undercutting prices, which undermines fair competition.
In the next step of the investigation the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) will determine, by July 11, 2025, whether the imports are harming Canadian producers.
Concurrently, the CBSA will investigate whether the imports are being sold in Canada at unfair prices, and will make a preliminary decision by August 11, 2025.
Anti-dumping and/or countervailing duties could eventually be applied to the goods under investigation.
