Duties and taxes: End of release prior to payment transition period on Tuesday May 20.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) issued a reminder about the end of the CARM transition period during which importers could have their goods customs released and delivered without having submitted a bond or a deposit to guarantee the payment of duties and taxes.

The transition was meant to give importers time to to register in the Release Prior to Payment (RPP) Program with a security deposit or a bond to guarantee the payment of duty and taxes.

The transition period ends at 3 am EDT on Tuesday May 20, 2025.

From then on, importers who are not enrolled in RPP will have to pay all duties and taxes at a CBSA office before goods can be released at the border.
