Thousand Islands Bridge final phase of rehabilitation should not cause traffic disruptions.

The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority and The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited have resumed the final phase of rehabilitation on the Canadian Span of the Thousand Islands International Bridge during the week of May 12, 2025.

This stage, which consists of wrapping the west main cable, will complete the multi-year project that paused for the winter season.

The bridge authorities outlined the following:

• Final cable wrapping: Crews will wrap the west main cable, strengthening the span for decades to come.

• No daytime disruptions: Nighttime alternating single lane closures will occur between 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. All lanes will remain open during the day, with border operations continuing as usual.

• Minimal noise: The work involves mainly wrapping materials, generating little noise for nearby residents.

• Pedestrian and cyclist access: For safety, the Canadian Span remains closed to pedestrians and cyclists for the construction season.
