The United States announced an increase of the tariff on Canadian goods from 25% to 35%, with the higher tariff set to go into effect on August 1, 2025.
The tariff won't be applied to goods qualifying for preferential tariff treatment under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
Goods that would be transshipped to another country to evade the new tariff would be subject to a transshipment levy of 40%, according to a White House fact sheet.
